"לחם בבית" נכתב על ידי אורי שפט, בעליה של מאפיית "לחמים". הספר מבקש להקיף את מכלול הידע הנחוץ לאפייה ביתית, החל במתכונים וכלה בשיטות לישה ועיצוב הכיכר.
הספר כולל שלושים וחמישה מתכונים, המחולקים לקטגוריות באופן שרירותי מדי, לטעמי. המתכונים עצמם מוצלחים מאוד ומניבים תוצאות דומות לאלה המוצגות בספר, והם כתובים בצורה די ברורה, תוך ציון המשקל של כל מרכיב ותחושת הבצק בכל שלב. עם זאת, כדאי לדעת שהמתכונים עברו התאמות, כך שהמתכון (המצוין) ללחם הטוסקני, לדוגמא, כולל מלח (בניגוד ללחם הטוסקני מסורתי) והבגט, אף שהוא טעים מאוד, אינו בדיוק ה"דבר האמיתי". בספר יש גם מתכון ליצירת שאור, אך אין מתכונים ללחם שעושה בו שימוש, או הסבר לגבי המרת השמרים בשאור – וחבל.
הספר מעוצב לעילא וללא ספק מדובר באחד מספרי האפייה היפים שיצאו לאור בארץ. מלבד לצילומים היפיפיים של דניאלה לילה, כולל הספר גם איורים מקסימים מאת יזהר כהן, דבר חריג בספרי בישול.
לסיכום, מדובר בספר המהווה תוספת מכובדת למדף הספרים של כל אופה ישראלי. אפייה נעימה!
